We worked with the Superteam Nigeria community, this process sped up our research phase for the redesign and revamp.
Questions revolved around:
When joining or hosting live calls, what matters most to you—stability, ease of access, or audience interaction?
What challenges do you face when trying to monetize your live sessions or expertise online?
Have you experienced delays or restrictions when withdrawing money earned from streaming platforms? If yes, describe the impact.
What features would make you feel safer and more assured when receiving payments from fans or clients during live calls?
If you host sessions: What’s the biggest pain point in setting up, managing, or sharing your live events?
Background
Streamlink (@use_stream) is a Solana-powered video conferencing and live streaming platform designed for creators, communities, and Web3 innovators. It ditches traditional paywalls and subscriptions for a free, feature-rich setup where hosts can run seamless meetings, AMAs, or streams with built-in tipping (in SOL, naturally), easy withdrawals, and extras like quiz/pitch modes, attendance tracking, and even YouTube integration. It's all about empowering real-time interaction without the centralized hickups think Zoom meets decentralized vibes, but faster and fairer for tipping creators directly on-chain.

Before finalizing the product direction, I explored some existing video conferencing and live-streaming platforms, studied user feedback on Twitter/X, Twicth, Google Meet, Zoom and Discord, and analyzed on-chain data from Solana-based streaming projects to deeply understand creators’ and viewers’ real pain points, especially around monetization, latency, access control, and direct tipping, ensuring StreamLink is built for what actually drives engagement and retention in decentralized real-time video.

Before the redesign, even though the tech worked, users were quietly abandoning the product because of invisible friction only a seasoned designer could spot and fix:
This revolved around:
Disorienting chaos the moment users entered a room – No visual hierarchy, no clear speaker focus, and zero sense of “where am I in this call?” made every session feel overwhelming despite the solid backend.
Hosts and attendees constantly asking “What are we talking about?” – There was no shared context or timeline; users were lost in a sea of faces and chat, wasting the first 10–15 minutes just getting aligned.
Interaction tools buried or missing – Polls, hand-raises, and agendas either didn’t exist or were hidden three clicks deep, killing participation and turning potentially lively AMAs or meetings into silent monologues.
Sudden drop-offs from pure cognitive overload – Cluttered layouts, tiny icons, and inconsistent flows forced users to think instead of talk, so they simply left.
Wallet login that felt hostile, not welcoming – The crypto entry barrier looked and felt like a developer tool, scaring away 80% of potential viewers before they even saw the stream.

With StreamLink, hosts can launch seamless video rooms where participants join instantly, tip creators on-chain, run live quizzes or AMAs, and host private meetings or public streams all in one decentralized space for richer, frictionless real-time connection.

As development progressed, I began exploring high-fidelity concepts to capture Fable’s immersive storytelling feel. The goal was to create a seamless, inspiring, and elegant interface that brings stories to life blending creativity, clarity, and emotion in every screen.

After countless iterations and refinements, I finalized the UI designs for the pilot phase as the sole designer. To ensure visual consistency and scalability, I built a complete design system that defined spacing, typography, and color balance across the platform. This system streamlined development and made implementation seamless for the engineering team.
